PRESIDENT'S LETTER

September 4, 2008
A message from SRPTO President - Cathy Epervary:

Dear Scioto Ridge Parents:
The PTO has another great school year planned for the children of Scioto Ridge.

Part of this year’s planning included changing the leadership of the PTO to incorporate a President
and President-Elect. I am happy to represent the PTO as President this year and am excited to be
joined by Tom Van Atta as the President-Elect. Because of the tremendous growth that Scioto Ridge
has experienced in recent years, the PTO thought it best to align with that growth by expanding the
leadership of the organization. The President will serve the first year with the President-Elect (or
President in Training) taking the reins the following year. This will leave more room for parents who
may work, or who may not want the total commitment of President, to share that role with someone
else. Tom and I are looking forward to our partnership this coming year with PTO Board and all of our
Committee Chairpersons.

We have so much going on already. The School Supply Sale took place over the summer under the leadership of Dianne Santiago and experienced a tremendous success.

Logo Sales took place during both curriculum nights. Thank you to Heather Follmer for organizing this committee.

We have a Walk-A-Thon coming up September 26th and an Ice Cream Social September 22nd.

The Fall Book Fair will also be starting soon, please check the Scioto Scoop for more information!

Thanks to Tiffany Rappleye the directory is coming together and will be distributed in early October. All parents interested in volunteering in the school must attend one of our VIP trainings, headed up by Jen Reck. See the latest issue of the September issue of Scioto Scoop for more details.

Last year the PTO incorporated the efforts of 160+ families in its volunteer base and we are hoping to enlist more this year. The money that the PTO raises goes into many activities and resources that the children enjoy throughout the year including Smart Boards, Author Visits, Field Day, Ice Cream, Popcorn Parties, Field Trips, COSI Assemblies, Playground Supplies, Write Shop, the Talent Show and so much more.

Please take the time to read the Scoop and find something that you are interested in and get involved. It's your children that benefit the most when you are involved. Your input is also very much appreciated.

Please feel free to contact me, Tom or any member of the Board with any questions or concerns that you may have.

The PTO looks forward to servingyou and your children this year.

Thank you for all that you do every day!

President

A message from Julie Nolan-Principal & Cindy Teske - Asstistant Principal:

Dear Parents,

We are looking forward to your visit Thursday evening, September 4th. This is an opportunity
to share our curriculum and goals for the year. There will be two sessions to allow you to visit
more than one classroom. We will begin in the Commons at 7:00 and the first session will take
place from 7:15-7:55 in the classrooms. Session two will begin at 8:00 and will last until 8:30.
We will also be offering a Volunte

er-In-Partnership (VIP) Training during the second session (in the Library) as well. We ask that this
be an evening for just parents and teachers so that we are sure to address all of your questions.
Parent/teacher conference sign-ups will be available in all of the classrooms, as well as volunteer
opportunities for all of our special events. We look forward to seeing you.

Thanks for all that you do!

Sincerely,

Julie Nolan          Cindy Teske

August 12, 2008
A message from Julie Nolan-Principal & Cindy Teske - Asstistant Principal:

Dear Parents and Friends of Scioto Ridge:

Greetings! We hope that you and your family have had an enjoyable summer! It is exciting to think that we will be opening our doors for the 2008-2009 school year very soon.

If you pre ordered school supplies from our PTO this spring, our Back to School Bookstore is Monday, August 18 from 4-8 p.m. during our Open House. Open House is on Monday, August 18, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your child to meet the teacher and tour the building. Your child may also bring his/her school supplies to school on Open House night, so that they will not have to carry them on the bus the first day of school. We hope to see you there!

For our new families who will be attending Scioto Ridge this year, we will be having a New Family Welcome Breakfast on Friday, September 19 at 9:30 a.m. in the Commons. Please attend this breakfast so that we may answer any questions that you may have about our school community. Another way to find information about school is to visit the district “Back to School” website. The address is: http://www.olentangy.k12.oh.us/district/bts/index.html

For our returning students, please encourage your child to finish up their Summer Brain Games. Taking time to read each day and complete a portion of the Summer Brain Game materials is a great way to maintain and improve skills, as well as, getting them back into the routine of school. Make sure that you sign and return the Summer Brain Game sheet.

Curriculum Night is right around the corner! Parents of students in grades 3-5 will attend on Tuesday, August 26th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and those with students in grades K-2 will attend on Thursday, September 4th, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. This is an important time to learn about the curriculum and classroom procedures.

The school hours for next year have changed. School begins at 8:50 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. Students may enter the building starting at 8:40 a.m. You may drop students off at the front entrance until 8:40 a.m. If you are dropping off your child after 8:50 a.m., please escort your child into the building and sign him/her in at the school office.

Please call the school office by 10:00 a.m. if your child will be absent or tardy. When your child returns to school, you must send a written note or medical excuse from a doctor/dentist for our records. If we do not receive a written note or medical excuse, the absence will be unexcused. Please refer to your student handbook for a detailed description regarding excused and unexcused absences.

The lunch menu for the first day of school is chicken nuggets, dinner roll, green beans, fresh fruit and milk. Debit card information will be available for you during Open House.

Portal letters were attached to the last page of your student's report card. New students received a portal letter in the mail from our technology department. Please refer to that letter explaining the procedures for determining your child's class placement and transportation information for the 2008-2009 school year. In addition, please watch your local newspapers, district web site and August district newsletter for additional school information.

Thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to a great year!

Sincerely,

Julie Nolan          Cindy Teske
